Traffic congestion warning

MOTORISTS are being warned of ongoing traffic congestion issues caused by the closure of the Cantilever Bridge for urgent repairs this week.

The high level bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal at Warrington has been closed by Peel Holdings for five days while the emergency works are being carried out.

Added to road re-surfacing on Knutsford Road motorists are advised to give themselves more journey time or find alternative routes.

  1. It wasn’t all that long ago this bridge had a spruce up and complete repaint. You have to wonder why the causes of this latest “emergency repair” were not picked up at that time? It would have saved everyone the resultant problems they now face.

  2. BEFORE Warrington Borough Council re-surfaced Station Road on one side and Ackers Road on the other side Peel Holdings knew about the problem. It was the connecting pads (Cantilever to roadway surface) because I had complained about it being a hazard as it had dropped. Peel did repair it with a concrete type material – only this broke up into small pieces a few weeks ago and as a result they have to repair it properly.
Peel should have repaired it when the bridge was closed due to the other roads being re-surfaced. Communication between WBC and Peel – is there any???

    • The lack of communication between WBC and Peel H is not unique. The complete lack of communication between local authorities, county councils et al and all the utility companies across the country has existed for decades and it continues to plague us, despite repeated promises to collaborate and coordinate for the benefit of the general public.
