A NEW state-of-the-art gymnasium is to be built as a result of a deal between Warrington Wolves and the University of Chester.
The gym will be built as the university’s Padgate campus and will form part of a Wolves centre of excellence on the site.
Wolves have been using the extensive sports facilities at Padgate as a first team training base for some time.
Now the new gymnasium – recently granted planning consent – will house a range of weight training and fitness equipment, together with space for floor exercise.
Dr Chris Haslam, the university’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for the Warrington Campus, said: “The University and the Warrington Wolves have a long standing and special relationship.
“The development of a new, state of the art gym facility represents the next stage of the development of a centre of excellence. The university has acknowledged expertise in Sports Science and we are working closely with the Wolves to enhance fitness and performance.
“The gym will provide outstanding facilities for both the University’s students, staff and the Wolves.”
Wolves chief executive Andy Gatcliffe added: “We value greatly our links with the university and the new gym is the next, exciting stage in a long term relationship. The gym is the next step in the development of a Centre of Excellence at the site.
“The training facilities available to us at the University’s Warrington Campus are fantastic and there is a tremendous working relationship and community spirit with the university.”
