SCOUTS who volunteered to clean up a Warrington car park collected 20 bags of rubbish in just a few hours.
The 28th Warrington Scouts offered to clean the Winwick Street car park opposite Central Station.
And when the job was done the enterprising group headed into the town centre with customised shopping bags. These were exchanged for a donation – to raise awareness of recycling and raise £92 for charity.
Peter Houghton scout leader, said: “The 28th Warrington Scouts decided to work with the council as part of their community challenge badge, by cleaning up an identified area of the town.
“The troop also helped raise the profile of recycling by decorating reusable cotton bags and exchanging them for a donation to the local air ambulance service.”
Coun Alan Litton, the borough council’s executive member for environmental services, said: “The council’s waste services department welcomes all efforts to get its ‘Recycle for Warrington’ message across to the public.
“It is especially pleasing when that support comes from local youngsters, who are all members of a respected organisation.”
