A COUNCILLOR from Warrington will take on one of the most high-profile roles at this year’s Labour Party conference.
Cllr Cathy Mitchell (pictured) , who represents Burtonwood and Winwick on the borough council, has been appointed chief scrutineer at the conference which starts in Liverpool this weekend.
The role will see her thrust into the national media spotlight as she announces the results of ballots at the conference.
The role of chief scrutineer is challenging, but one that’s essential to the smooth running of the conference throughout the week.
Cllr Mitchell said: “Announcements confirming who has been elected, what issues conference prioritises to be discussed and the results of card votes on party policy are some of the most important aspects of our party conference. I am obviously honoured that the party has the confidence in me to ask me to undertake this key role.”
Cllr Mitchell is currently involved in a ballot of her own – contesting a by-election for a vacancy on Winwick Parish Council which will be held on  October 13.
