MEP expelled from party

ONE of Warrington’s Euro MPs – a former pupil at Stockton Heath Primary School – has been expelled from the Conservative Party.
Den Dover, former Tory chief whip, should never again be allowed to stand for the party in any election, party leader David Cameron has ruled.
Mr Dover, who visited Warrington to help the campaign to save the old Stockton Heath Primary School from demolition, stood down as chief whip in June although he denied any wrong doing over payments totalling £760,000 to a family-owned business.
This followed an investigation into claims he used taxpayers’ money to pay his wife and daughter for office work.
It is understood the European Parliament ruled that the payments caused a conflict of interest and ordered the MEP to repay around £500,000.
Mr Cameron has made it clear he expects total transparency over expenses.
He took immediate action to have him expelled from the party, although Mr Dover has a right to appeal.
Tory leader in Brussels Philip Bushill-Matthews has instructed Mr Dover’s successor as chief whip to withdraw the whip from him with immediate effect.
“This means he will not be a Conservative candidate at the European Parliament elections next year.”
