Young people who made a big “impact”

A GROUP of young people made a big “impact” when they presented their manifesto to Warrington Borough Council members at the monthly council meeting.
Members of IMPACT (formerly Warrington Youth Council), which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, presented a manifesto for young people at the.
The group represents young people in Warrington aged 13-19 and campaigns for positive improvements in the borough. It is managed by young people, with support from the council youth service and is chaired by Warrington’s Member of Youth Parliament Rose Warburton.
Cllr Jean Carter, the council’s lead member for children’s services, introduced the group.
She said: “We are very proud of the young people of our borough and the
IMPACT group is a great example of what they can achieve.
“We have been pleased to support the group over the past 10 years and have been very happy to see how successful they have become.”
Last year the group canvassed opinion for the Make Your Mark campaign to form the basis of their manifesto. They signed up all Warrington secondary schools and had more than 5,000 responses.
The five most voted for topics were: The Living Wage, Curriculum for Life, Better Transport,  Mental Health and Tackling Racism and Religious Discrimination The manifesto shows what IMPACT plans to achieve over the next two years.
