TOP American jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard is to play Warrington’s Parr Hall with a band made up of some of the UK’s most remarkable emerging musicians.
The Inner City Ensemble works outside the conventional jazz or big band line-up and will include instrumentation including the French Horn, Oboe and Tuba.
The musicians were recruited via an open call for participation.
New Orleans-born Blanchard played with some of the jazz greats, including Lionel Hampton and Art Blakey.
He embarked on a solo recording career in 1991 and since then hastravelled many paths musically, including delivering adventurous and provocative acoustic jazz outings of original material.
The Grammy Award-winning trumpeter has also composed a wide range of music – including music for more than 50 films.
The Inner City Ensemble band he will lead includes graduates from the Royal Northern College of Music and Chethams School of Music in Manchester and also Warrington-born tenor saxophonist Chelsea Carmichael, a former pupil of Culcheth High School, who is now working with a wide variety of ensembles, from trios to big bands and has appeared on the BBC Proms.
The concert, on September 16, will give her a rare opportunity of playing in her home town.
