Warning over bogus accident compensation phone calls

0

WARRINGTON residents are being warned about bogus phone calls  claiming to be from the borough council offering compensation for accidents.

The Borough Council’s contact centre has received a number of reports from local people who have been called by persons claiming to work for Warrington Borough Council. This is not the case. The number involved is 0208 9000 010.

If a person calls you claiming to be working with or for Warrington Borough Council and offers you compensation for an accident, please end the call and report it to Citizens Advice Consumer line on 03454 04 05 06. You can also report it by completing an on online form. Visit http://socsi.in/egFJc and click on ‘consumer’ on the top menu.

Citizens Advice Consumer line manages first line complaints for Trading Standards. Reporting issues nationally helps trading standards across the country to spot scams that operate wider than local authority boundaries. It supports officers to take preventative action, share intelligence across the UK and tackle rogues more quickly.
