Cats win a £500 prize

A TINY animal welfare charity at Warrington has won a £500 donation to help it with its work.
Cat Homing and Rescue will use the money to help pay towards veterinary bills for the cats in its care.
Hazel Helsby, who runs the charity, is delighted with the prize.
She said: “We are a small charity, so it is brilliant to be recognised and awarded this prize. The £500 will be invaluable to ensuring we can pay for the day-to-day care of the cats.
“The cats often arrive in urgent need of veterinary care so this money will be a great help in making sure all our cats are well looked-after.”
The £500 prize comes from pet insurer Petplan.
Every cat adopted through the Warrington centre will receive a voucher for four weeks free Petplan insurance.
If a full Petplan policy is later taken out, the charity also benefits from 10 per cent commission. Each month a prize draw is then held from all the vouchers and cover notes issued and one charity benefits from the prize fund.
Simon Wheeler, of Petplan said: “We understand what a difficult time it can be re-homing a cat or dog and are glad to offer this extra peace of mind during the first few weeks of the animal’s life in a new environment. Having your pet insured is an important part of taking care of its future health and of helping you to contain any unforeseen veterinary costs.”
