Crunch talks on town flooding

TOWN Hall chiefs at Warrington are today meeting experts from United Utilities and the Environment Agency to try and find a solution to flooding which has hit the town twice in the last two months.
Local councillors will also be present at the meeting – including Orford’s Coun Mike Hannon (right) who, earlier this week, called for urgent action to stop the floods.
Properties in Densham Avenue, Longford were surrounded by floodwater and raw sewage early on Sunday morning after heavy rain during the night.
Gardens were flooded and roads swamped – but the water stopped inches short of inundating the houses.
But in an earlier incident, last month, several houses were flooded.
Coun Hannon, who spent hours at the scene on Sunday, demanded urgent action.
He said: “Enough is enough. There has been a flooding problem in Densham Avenue for 20 years, but it used to be the sort of thing that happened perhaps once a year. Now we have had five or six alarms this year – two within the space of two months.
“I’m fed up with hearing excuses. I want action taken to solve the problem.
“Residents are living in fear all the time.”
Residents of nearby Tomlinson Avenue were also in fear as the water crept nearer to their homes and there were reports of roads being flooded in various parts of the borough.
