Unique basketball scholarship launched

THE first of three unique scholarships to be funded by Warrington based BiG Storage in a new unique foundation degree in sports coaching and basketball, was presented during a recent BiG Storage Cheshire Jets game.
Worthy recipient Stuart McNeill, who is currently a coach for one of the Big Storage Junior Jets teams, is taking part in this pioneering opportunity to develop his coaching skills alongside professional coaches and players, and will help out with spreading basketball through schools across Warrington and Cheshire.
Also present at the event were Stan Jones – the original founder of the Jets and Malcolm Jones – the first ever player.
The degree course, which is in its inception year, is being delivered by the University of Chester Warrington campus. Work based learning will form a key part of the degree and will be facilitated by BiG Storage Cheshire Jets as an integral part of their community projects and wider business activity.
Andrew Donaldson, partner of BiG Storage, who came up with the initial idea late last year for the course commented: “I am delighted that Stuart is the first beneficiary of the BiG Storage scholarship as I know his work with the BiG Storage Junior Jets has been invaluable to the club so far.
“In order to encourage the organic growth of basketball, initiatives such as the degree course, and offering scholarship opportunities can only contribute positively towards producing the calibre of players, coaches and community liaison officers that the BiG Storage Cheshire Jets need.’
