LICENSING chiefs have thrown out a bid by a Warrington bar to stay open until 3.30am every day of the week.
The application by The Viper Lounge, at Stockton Heath caused a storm of protest from nearby residents – and now there are calls for the bar to be closed altogether.
More than 80 letters of objection were received from residents and there were strong objections also from Stockton Heath Parish Council and the police.
The borough council’s licensing sub-committee heard complaints of noise, vandalism, hooliganism and other disturbances cause by the bar.
Residents claimed there were numerous acts of violence which were not reported to the police.
A number of nearby householders have taken videos of disturbances outside the bar – although the CCTV cameras which were installed as a condition of the licence were said to be out of action.
Councillors were told of bottles being thrown from a balcony above the bar and cigarette ends flicked at passersby.
In addition, revellers were often seen urinating in nearby gardens.
The Viper Lounge were not represented at the meeting.
A number of residents have called for the bar’s existing licence to be revoked – forcing it to close
Now a public meeting has been called to take place immediately before the next meeting of Stockton Heath Parish Council to discuss the matter further.
The meeting will be at the Sandy Lane Centre on Tuesday, November 11 at 6pm.
