A LORRY driver involved in Monday’s horrific crash on the M6, which wiped out a family of six, has appeared in court.
Paulo De Silva, 46, a Portuguese man, from Murcia, in Spain, appeared before magistrates at Crewe charge with six offences of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was remanded in custody until November 4 when he will appear before Chester Crown Court.
De Silva was driving a lorry on the M6 near Sandbach when it was involved in a multiple collision with two other lorries and two cars.
David Statham, 38, his wife Michelle, 33 and their children Reece, 13, Jay, 9, Nathan 20 months and Elouise, 10 weeks were all killed after their car burst into flames.
In a separate accident 90 minutes earlier on the same road, former Warrington Wolves and Great Britain Rugby League player David Myers, 37, was killed when his van collided with a bridge support.
Traffic was still moving slowly following this crash when the multiple accident occurred and accident investigation officers have looked into the possibility of a connection between the two tragedies.

I find the use of the term “wiped out” totally unsuitable in the above report.
