Justice spokesman slams Titan prisons

SHADOW Justice Secretary Nick Herbert (pictured) has spoken out against Titan Prisons like the one proposed for Warrington.
He wants locally integrated prisons – not mega establishments like the one suggested for the Omega development site.
He said: “For over a decade this Government has failed to provide adequate jail places, but huge prisoner warehouses – the largest in Europe – are not the right answer.
“What’s needed is a network of smaller, local prisons with better integration with local communities and a new focus on reducing re-offending so that we can arrest the growth in the prison population in the right way.”
Hundreds of local people have signed protest petitions about the Omega prison proposal and an action group has been set up to fight the plan.
David Mowat, Prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Warrington South, backs the protest.
He criticised the plan to put 2,500 prisoners, including many Category A offenders, near a housing estate.
