THE arrest of two men near Warrington has resulted in what is believed to be the biggest ever mainland seizure of cannabis in the UK.
Police arrested the men – both from Runcorn – after stopping two cars on the M62 at Junction 11, Birchwood.
They recovered 105 kilos of cannabis from the vehicles – and then, as a result of further enquiries, went to Wakefield, in Yorkshire where a further 2,500 kilos of the drug was discovered from a non-residential property.
A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said today: “It is believed that as a result of these seizures the supply of cannabis in the North West may have been interrupted to the level of £10 million.”
The two men, aged 42 and 35, have appeared before Halton Magistrates and remanded in custody.
They were charged with conspiracy to supply cannabis.
