Poetry and cartoon workshop

ABOUT 100 youngsters from six Warrington high schools took part in a poetry and cartooning workshop for gifted and talented learners.
The event was hosted by Birchwood High School and also attended by Cardinal Newman, Culcheth, Great Sankey, Sir Thomas Boteler and St. Gregory’s high schools.
Poet Ian McMillan and newspaper cartoonist Tony Husband worked with the youngsters to devise a poem and then put their written ideas into a selection of cartoons.
In the grand finale each group presented their work to each other and a number of supportive parents. It is hoped that the work created will later be brought together in a book.
The day was a great success, allowing pupils to enjoy themselves and be inspired to take their talents to new and interesting levels. It is hoped that this will be the first of many similar events this academic year.
