Lifebelts needed at pond

LIFEBELTS should be provided at Stockton Heath’s Ackers Pit, the parish council has been told.
A resident praised the council for its work on restoring the popular beauty spot and said it looked “lovely.”
But she added: “What happens when it freezes over. Are there going to be lifebelts around there?”
She was concerned that youngsters playing on the grassed area could slip into the pond and fall through the ice.
Coun Sonia Boggan said when the site was facing difficulties parish council meetings were packed with people complaining.
“Now it looks beautiful. People had no patience – we knew it would come together in the end,” she said.
Coun Graham Roughsedge said there had been concern about people walking dogs without leads, after a dog had jumped up at someone and two dogs had attacked a swan. He suggested that signs should be put up telling people to keep dogs on leads.
Clerk Peter Briggs said lifebelts and other signage – such as asking people to keep dogs on leads – would be considered in the future.
