MAGISTRATES in Warrington are backing the tougher stance taken by the borough council and the police to try and stamp out anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
They have dismissed appeals by the Synergy nightclub and The Feathers pub against decisions made by the council’s licensing committee.
The upheld the

committee’s decision to refuse an application from Synergy nightclub to extend its opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays from 4am to 5am because of the likelihood of increased crime and disorder.
Magistrates also dismissed an appeal by The Feathers pub a against a reduction in the premises operating hours and a series of conditions placed on its licence by the licensing committee, following a review of the current licence.
The review took place after concerns about alcohol related anti-social behaviour were raised by the public.
The conditions cover a variety of topics including staff training, CCTV and the role of door supervisors.
Borough council leader Ian Marks said: “We welcome the decisions made by the magistrates’ court. These decisions serve to reinforce the strong message that the council, police and other agencies take the issues and causes of alcohol related anti-social behaviour seriously and we are working in many ways to tackle them.
“This is all about working together with licensed premises that are getting on board with the plan. The decisions by the courts also highlight the need for everyone involved to act responsibly. By maintaining good, two way relations with licensed premises, we can root out any problems, work together on any issues and resolve them in a constructive and effective way.”
Supt Jed Manley said: “Cheshire Police and representatives from various agencies are working in partnership to ensure that licensed premises across Warrington are reaching acceptable standards.
“We are all committed to tackling alcohol related crime and disorder in Warrington town centre and to working with licensees to help make Warrington a safer place.”
