VANDALS went on the rampage during the night, setting fire to a number of skips and rubbish compounds.
Fire crews were called to deal with two skip fires at the rear of PC World, off Winwick Road and two more at the rear of Europa Boulevard.
A rubbish compound was set alight off Sankey Way.
A Fire Service spokesman said the fires had started in quick succession and it was likely they had been started by the same group of people.
“There was no serious damage to anything other than rubbish – but if a more serious fire had occurred at the same time we could have been in difficulty,” he said.
Police are investigating.
