A NEW state-of-the-art MRI scanner has opened at Warrington’s Spire Cheshire Hospital, as part of a £2.5 million imaging suite.
The 1.5T Siemens Magnetom Avanto scanner is housed in a spacious scanning suite which blends seamlessly with the existing hospital at Stretton.
It houses a control room, a consultant reporting room, a reception and waiting area along with welfare facilities and changing rooms.
The Siemens Magnetom Avanto – formally opened by the Mayor, Coun Graham Welborn (above) – offers new levels of excellence in MRI scanning. Patient comfort is the key.
Innovative design with a wider bore, makes it easier for patients to get on and off the scanner.
For claustrophobic patients, the new scanner enables feet first examinations for the majority of MR procedures.
For obese patients, it supports up to 200 kg (400lbs), without table movement restrictions.
Ultra lightweight coils make it significantly more comfortable for all patients, especially those who are very sick and audio comfort technology reduces decibel levels up to 97 per cent.
The Avanto also delivers the kind of performance needed for the most demanding MRI exam with high performance technology, impressive image quality, high speed and high resolution and shorter scan times.
All aspects of MRI are available :- musculoskeletal, neurological, ENT and abdominal and pelvic imaging. Specialist examinations include breast imaging, cardiac and stroke assessment.
A hospital spokesperson said: “The suite is staffed by highly specialised radiographers with extensive MRI experience and all examinations are reported on and protocolled by consultant radiologists who are expert in their specialist areas. The suite operates seven days a week and reports are usually available within 48 hours of the examinations.”
