FIVE fire engines were called out at Warrington early today to a fire in the ground floor of a building at Boteler High School in School Road, Latchford.

The blaze was reported around 4.15am and fire engines from Warrington, Stockton Heath, Birchwood and Manchester were called to the scene.

Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus use a hose reel jet and covering jets to tackle the blaze and later a specialist ventilation unit was deployed to clear smoke from the building.

It is believed the fire was caused by an electrical fault and damage was restricted to one classroom although the building was badly affected by smoke.

The school has been closed today apart from for students sitting exams and will remain closed tomorrow (Tuesday) while clean up work continues.

Students doing exams should attend as normal.

There were no reports of injuries.
