WARRINGTON’S Civic Sunday had an additional dimension as it marked the beginning of a new mayoral year and also celebrated HM The Queen’s 90th birthday.
In addition to the Mayor Cllr. Faisal Rashid and other leading civic dignitaries and community representatives from Warrington, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for Cheshire David Briggs attended the event at St Elphin’s Church and spoke of the Christian faith that has sustained The Queen throughout her life.
The Service was led by the Rector of Warrington Rev. Paul Wilson who is the Mayor’s Christian Chaplain with a Reflection by his Muslim Chaplain Mohamed Abdalla.
The Rector spoke of the parable of the “Good Samaritan and who is my neighbour”, while Mohamed Abdalla talked of the Islamic belief that the Leader is the Servant and then paid tribute to the selfless good works by Mohammed Ali as an example of “serving the people.”
The Mayor read a lesson and there were contributions from Rev’d Stephen Kingsnorth, Fr Christopher Cunningham and a Free Church representative.
A musical contribution was made by Warrington Brass in addition to organist Alan Thornecoft from the Parish Church.
