Story time with the firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS teamed up with a town centre book store at Warrington to support Child Safety Week with a storytime session.
Watch manager Damo Wighht, crew manager Matt Cullen and firefighter Dave Cross, all from Stockton Heath Fire Station, set up camp in the children’a area at Waterstones where they read Tonyh Mitton’s “Flashing Fire Engines” every hour to groups of local children.
Parents and children also had the chance to play their part by donning firefighter kit and acting out part of the story.
Matt Cullen said: “The event was open to everyone. We talked about fire safety with the children, and read the story at key intervals.
“As ‘People Who Help Us’ is such an important topic in schools, we wanted to make this subject even more interesting by doing something fun and interactive. ‘Flashing Fire Engines’ is fantastic as it explains exactly what being a firefighter is all about in an age appropriate way.
“The children loved having the firefighters in their very own area and getting dressed up in the fire kit!”
The firefighters were inspired to organise the interactive event due to the positive reception they received when visiting pre-schools to read the children’s book.
