Warrington’s BHS store to close within weeks

WARRINGTON’S BHS store is set to close within the next couple of weeks after administrators failed to find a buyer for the struggling retail chain.
Nationally, up to 163 shops will be closed and sold off to other retailers with up to 11,000 jobs lost – 8,000 of them directly employed by the company..
A major closing down sale can be expected at the Warrington store.
Last ditch attempts to save the struggling chain failed because although there were several bids to buy it, none of the bidders had sufficient money to providing the working capital to secure the company’s future.
Earlier this year, BHS warned that many of its stores could close unless landlords agreed to cuts in rent. But it is understood that even after rent reductions were agreed, the company continued to be in difficulty.
BHS has been in Warrington since the early days of the Golden Square shopping centre.
