Historic pub can be extended – despite objections

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have approved proposals for a first floor extension at the locally listed Black Swan pub at Rixton – despite objections from the local parish council.
Members of Rixton-with-Glazebrook Parish Council opposed the extension – wanted for office and storage purposes – on the grounds that it would not be aesthetically pleasing.
But planning officers said the proposed dormers would harmonise with the existing roof, not cause any significant harm to the character and appearance of the area and would be more in keeping with the appearance of the pub than the existing flat roof on which the extension would be built.
The meeting was told the nearest residential property – believed to be the vicarage of St Helens Church – was 20.5 metres away.
