POLICE Community Support Officers in Warrington town centre have been set an unusual challenge.
The seven PCSOs have been challenged to walk 567 miles – equivalent of a trip to Warrington’s twin town in Germany.
They will be wearing pedometers to monitor the distance they are walking around the town during their daily duties.
Their travels will be plotted on a special map and the map will be displayed at various locations so people can keep track of their progress and see who is leading the way.
Inspector Richard Reeves said: “PCSOs play such a valuable part in neighbourhood policing – patrolling their particular areas on a daily basis, forging close links with members of the public and gathering vital community intelligence.
“This challenge will show just how much time and commitment the PCSOs actually put into patrolling the town centre.”
It is hoped the challenge will grab public attention and demonstrate the commitment of the PCSOs
“We hope that people will stop and talk to the PCSOs as they go about their daily duties,” added Insp Reeves.
The PCSOs will launch the challenge tomorrow (Friday). They are setting up a special stand at the Cockhedge Centre between 10am and noon.
