FRODSHAM Wheelers Cycling Club is preparing for its biggest event of the year – the D2D (dawn till dusk) ride on June 25…the longest day of the year.
The ride is 220 miles long, starting from Frodsham at 3.30am, and is expected to attract more than 25 riders.
Frodsham Wheelers were formed only three years ago and they describe themselves as “self-confessed cycling nuts.”
They road race, time trial, mountain bike and cycle cross.
Mainly though, they are a social riding club with a desire to promote cycling in the area.  Members include race winners, newcomers, teenagers and pensioners.
Route for the D2D heads up to Liverpool and through the Birkenhead tunnel then through the Welsh lanes passing Flint, St Asaph then breakfast at Llanwrst at 9am.
Then therre’s a long section to Porthmadog and on to Barmouth – the furthest point on the ride.
From there it is a long ride back to Frodsham via Dolgellau, Bala and Corwen before reaching Frodsham at 10pm, although some riders will continue on to Liverpool as this was their starting point.
A club spokesman said: “We thought it would be a good idea to raise money for a local charity at such a big event. We are passionate about the area and the people within community. The club wanted to reach out and help others.
“There were lots of charities to choose from but the chosen charity was Frodsham Rainbow Club, which provides social and leisure opportunities for people with learning difficulties in the surrounding area.”
The club have set up a Just Giving page at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/daniel-emmett
