Community policing is working!

NEIGHBOURHOOD Policing in Warrington and Cheshire is working according to a Home Office report.
A review by the HMIC (Her Majesty’s Inspection of Constabulary) confirms that the hard work of officers and PCSO’s has improved the public’s reassurance in their local police.
Now the force and Authority have demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the Neighbourhood Policing by investing in 35 additional officers.
Former Warrington police chief Graeme Gerrard, acting Chief Constable, said of the reports encouraging outcome: “We have invested a significant number of resources into neighbourhood policing and the HMIC report reflects this. We welcome feedback and positive responses like this are greatly appreciated.”
He went on to say: “We believe the local public appreciate having local policing in their area solving the problems which affect them. This style of policing has to be maintained and build on the firm foundations set to make Neighbourhood Policing even more effective and tackle the issues affecting the public such as anti-social behaviour to an even better level.”
He also praised PCSO’s (Police Community Support Officers) for their big contribution to neighbourhood policing
improvements: “Feedback from the public is very positive in regards to PCSO’s, not only having a presence in the
community but also in playing an important role in gathering local information which support policing processes.
There is no doubt that these additional officers on patrol have increased public reassurance and increased their
confidence in policing.”
This feeling is reflected in the report which states that 52% of the public think that their local police do a good
or excellent job, compared with 43% back in 2006. All the neighbourhoods in the area have a named contact at police constable/PCSO level and the force has 300 Special Constables who are allocated to NPUs.

  1. Not sure I agree with that – I reported (twice) what appears to be an abandoned car on our estate some 7 weeks ago which is obstructing the pavement and is untaxed – it is still there and I am not aware that anything has been done about it.
