WARRINGTON Wolves have made a double swoop for the capture of Gareth Carvell from Hull FC and Mickey Higham from Wigan Warriors for the 2009 Super League campaign.
Prop forward, Carvell (pictured right) has joined Warrington for an undisclosed transfer fee. The 28-year-old international has signed a three-year deal that will see stay with the Wolves until the end of 2011 season.
Former St Helens and Leigh hooker, Higham (pictured left) has signed a two – year contract. He will join up with the Wolves after his play-off campaign with Wigan has come to an end.
Wolves Chief Executive, Andy Gatcliffe said: “The club are determined to continue to build for the future.
These two players, again, shows our commitment to bringing the best talent in Super League to The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
“After the disappointment of Saturday’s result, we need to continue with our plans for 2009 and beyond. We aim to come back stronger than ever before.”
Carvell, a former teammate and close friend of Adrian Morley, is looking forward to linking up with the Wolves.
He said: “I’m coming to the club to win things. The Wolves have a lot of good players; I feel it’s the right move at the right time for me. I’ve spoken to people like ‘Moz’ and Lee Briers and they have every intention of playing in finals in the future. And that’s my goal.”
However, Carvell is not taking a place in Jimmy Lowes’ starting line up for granted. He said:“I like a challenge and I’m going to get one here. There’s lots of competition for places and that’s only good for the team. Playing with the likes of Morley, Rauhihi and Wood in the front row is only going to improve my game.”
Likewise, Higham is looking forward to the competition being at Warrington will provide.
“There’s a lot of quality at this club. There was a couple of clubs that came in for me but I feel this is club is really
going places.
“Obviously my commitment is still fully with Wigan until the end of the season. Next year it goes without saying that
this squad when fully fit are going to be a force, a potential top three side.”
Both players will link up with the Wolves at the commencement of pre-season training in November, subject to World Cup commitments.
