Organic veg producers team up

AN Organic Veg farmer from Stockley Farm near Warrington, has teamed up with one of Britain’s best known producers to launch Riverford on Stockley Farm.
The farm will grow and deliver boxes of organic vegetables to hundreds of customers locally.
Riverford has delivered freshly-picked, great-tasting organic vegetables to customers in the North West since spring 2008. This new venture with Stockley Farm will ensure that vegetables are eaten and enjoyed close to where they are grown.
Stockley will become the fourth ‘sister’ farm of Riverford Organic Vegetables, which has grown from one man, three acres and a wheelbarrow in Devon, to an alliance of farms growing and delivering veg boxes locally across much of the UK.
John Walton (pictured) who runs Stockley Farm says of the partnership: “We wanted to be able to grow our veg box business to offer more people in our area a chance to buy our great-tasting local produce. Teaming up with Riverford gives us access to expertise both about growing and delivering at scale. We’re really excited about the year ahead.”
“As demand for our veg boxes grew, we were faced with the challenge of how to meet demand without getting too big,” explained Guy Watson, founder of Riverford Organic Vegetables. “The solution was to team up with regional sister farms who share our ethics and passion for growing organic vegetables.
“It’s not that easy to find farmers who share our values,” continued Guy, “but John Walton talks with great enthusiasm about his crops and is someone who is open minded about new ways of doing things. I’m confident that this partnership will greatly benefit the local community.”
Riverford Organic Vegetables grows over 100 varieties of good value, seasonal produce on its farms around the UK and delivers them fresh to the doors of local customers. By keeping the business to a manageable scale, farmers benefit from fair prices, shared knowledge and equipment and have an assured route to market for their produce.
