Council leader's pledge to clear backlog of repairs

A PLEDGE that Warrington borough council will “get to grips” with the backlog of repairs to its infrastructure has been made by its leader.
Coun Ian Marks (pictured) told a meeting of full council on Monday that the council was determined to improve the look of the borough.
He said: “This is another major initiative for the year and extra money has been put into the budget for it. We are determined to start getting to grips with the massive backlog of repairs to our infrastructure.
“The aim is to deal with potholes, gullies and landscaping and to improve the gateways into our town.”
He said the programme had started in Birchwood and will move on to Poulton and Fearnhead.
Coun Marks said the council intended to take “a much tougher line” with the utility companies over re-instatements.
He said that many of the pothole problems coincided with patches dug up by the utilities.
