GOLFERS have raised more than £1,500 for Warrington’s historic Police Museum.
More than 40 golfers took part in a charity golf day to raise funds for the museum, which is housed at Warrington Police Station in Arpley Street.
The museum, which is run by volunteers, gives a fascinating insight into how policing has changed over the years.
It houses some impressive policing memorabilia including Victorian uniforms, medals, old photographs and a special re-creation of a traditional CID office.
The charity golf day took place at Mersey Valley Golf and Country Club near Warrington last month and was organised by former detective Chris Upham.
As a result, Chris was able to hand over a cheque for £1615 to Cheshire’s Acting Chief Constable Graeme Gerrard, who is chairman of the museum committee, and Peter Wroe, who is the Curator of the museum.
Chris said: “It is a great experience to have a fun day out with a lot of nice people and at the end of the day find that you have raised a lot of money for a worthy cause.
“The museum houses a considerable amount of interesting stuff and is a tribute to the work of just a few people. Without us supporting their efforts much of our history and heritage would be forgotten. They rely on funding to enable them to preserve the exhibits and to display them for all of us to enjoy.”
The charity golf day has been running for more than 20 years and each year the golfers decide on a worrthy cause to raise money for
This year’s event was won by a local team from Clock Face.
