LYMM scouts who went on a 12-day trip to Norway came back as “upgraded models” according to their leader.
A group of 20 from the 4th Lymm Scouts completed a range of activities during their visit.
Scout leader Simon Fathers said: “I said to their parents when we returned, that I had brought back upgraded models.”
The scouts between them earned 100 Scouting badges from their range of activities, and these will be presented at the group’s annual meeting.
The group lived under canvas by a freshwater fjord and activities included go-karting, archery, sailing, high rope walks and circus skills.
A few years ago the Lymm scouts hosted a visit of the Norwegian scout group 1st Fredrikstad at the Cheshire Chamboree camp. A party of 27 Lymm scouts and 27 Norwegian scouts enjoyed 10 days camping together.
The Lymm group made a return visit, organised by a group of 20 Norwegian scouts, which was funded by a £15,000 grant from the European Union under its Youth in Action initiative.
During the trip the youngsters studied the environment and the effect of climate change on the local fjords and countryside, enjoyed cultural understanding workshops, dual language films, a canoe hike and home hospitality with local families.
Simon said: “It was a fantastic opportunity and the scouts gained a lot more personal skills, learned new sports and developed their self confidence. The Norwegian scouts made us very welcome.”
