Waste consultation deadline extended

WARRINGTON Borough Council says it has had a good response to its waste strategy consultation – but is extending the deadline to give latecomers a chance to have their say.
Residents can now make comments and suggestions until October 24.
Recycling rates in Warrington are increasing but, council chiefs say, there is still too much going into landfill which is running out.
Everyone needs to think about how much waste they produce, how much could be recycled and what alternatives there are to landfill.
All the facts are available to anyone taking part in the council’s consultation about its proposed waste strategy which covers:
1. information about current recycling rates
2. penalties for not reducing the amount sent to landfill
3. alternatives to landfill
There is also a short questionnaire which everyone is encouraged to fill in.
All the information is available via:
1. www.warringtonwastewatchers.co.uk
2. Contact Warrington, Horsemarket Street
3. Ring Contact Warrington on 01925 443322 to ask for a hard copy or to speak to someone from the waste minimisation and recycling team
4. emailing [email protected] for the information or to make comments
Coun Alan Litton, the borough council’s executive member for environment services, said: “We have had a good response so far and we know this is an issue that almost everyone has an opinion on and we need to hear it.
“The issue of what to do with our waste is a challenge that we need to address now not in 10 years time. Read the information and have your say so that you are contributing to the solution.”
