300 fight plans for takeaways

MORE than 300 people are fighting plans for two takeaway shops on a new, upmarket housing estate.
In addition, a separate group of householders has lodged objections to a third plan for a retail shop only a few metres away on the same estate.
Members of Warrington’s development control committee have visited the three sites on the Heatley Mere estate, off Birchbrook Road, Lymm.
This Wednesday, September 3, they will have to decide if the three applications can go ahead.
The two takeaways are on either side of a new hair and beauty salon in Chaise Meadow.
Three Lymm councillors are opposing them – Bob Barr, Ian Marks and Sheila Woodyatt.
In addition, 96 individual letters of objection and a petition signed by 286 people have been received.
Main objections are noise, smells, litter, parking and traffic issues.
Residents claim that when they purchased their houses they were assured no such developments would be allowed.
They predict anti-social behaviour, crime and disturbance and noise at unsocial hours arising from deliveries and late-night customers.
But planning officers say the two takeaways must be considered as individual schemes. They say there is no basis to conclude that if both plans were approved and both shops opened there would be serious harm to the character of the area.
Opponents of the retail shop scheme, adjoining an existing Co-op store at Chaise Meadow, off Calton Road, say there is inadequate parking and that the site is close to the Trans Pennine Trail and could damage its geological and biological value.
But planning officers say there would be no damage to existing retail or residential properties.
