VIDEO: ENGLAND World Cup winner Roger Hunt took a trip down memory lane to help kick off Brazilymm66, marking the 50th anniversary of when Brazil stayed in the village during the 1966 World Cup.
The Liverpool legend, who started his career at Warrington Town and still lives in the area, was special guest at the event at the Lymm Hotel where the Brazilian team stayed during the 1966 World Cup.
Roger was familiar with the hotel as it was also a regular destination for the Liverpool team to stay pre-match for games at Anfield.
The event was organised by local resident Alan Williams, who lives next door to the hotel which became the centre of attention for the world’s media when the Brazilians stayed in the village.
Funds from the event will go towards a new heritage centre which is being created at the former British Legion building in the village which has been purchased by local businessman Howard Platt, who has agreed to lease it back to a community group set up to run the facility.
Last night’s event was a sell out success, with the exhibition remaining on show until Tuesday.
Roger said: “The exhibition brought back a lot of great memories and the event has clearly been a huge success.”
