Smoke alarm saves residents from fire

SMOKE alarms alerted the occupants of a house at Warrington when fire broke out in a bedroom.
Fire engines from Birchwood and Stockton Heath were sent to the blaze in Wilderspool Causeway and two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the blaze, which involved a bed.
A ventilation unit was used to clear smoke from the property.
There were no reports of any injuries.
In another incident, fire engines from Warrington and Stockton Heath were called to Lilford Avenue, Bewsey where wheelie bins were discovered ablaze outside two flats.
The fire slightly affected the building.  Crews tackled the b laze and an investigation as to the cause of the outbreak is under way.
