Double celebrations for shop

A POPULAR Culcheth shop is celebrating both its first and 25th anniversaries on the same day.
Forget-me-Not toy and book shop, at the CPS Centre in Culcheth, has a double celebration on Saturday October 25. The toy shop marks its 25th anniversary and it is the business’ first anniversary under new management.
Formerly Options, the toy shop was started by Maureen and John Donnachie. For the past 12 months it has been run by local sisters-in-law Naomi Simpson and Victoria Simpson-Forrest. The shop has undergone a substantial refit and was re-launched earlier this year.
Customers are invited to a celebration party at Culcheth’s Parish Hall on Saturday, October 25 from 10am to 4pm. There will be a variety of goods, including Christmas toys, on display, talks from local authors, children’s entertainment and complimentary refreshments.
Victoria said: “We very much owe our continued success to our local community which has supported their village toy shop over the years. We have continued to build on the success of the previous management extending the range of toys and books on offer.”
Other events include a Roald Dahl Day on Saturday September 13 when the titles will be re-launched with new covers.
On Saturday September 20 there will be a book signing by local author Gary Speakman of Great Sankey. He will sign copies of his first title, Six of the Best.
The following week, Saturday September 27, a new local history book will be signed. Mainly Memories, is a new Culcheth history book compiled by Maureen Draper. It contains pictures and tales of the village from days gone by. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to Claire House Children’s Hospice.
On Saturday October 4 up to 600 youngsters are expected to join in an event to mark Culcheth Youth Festival. The shop will host two creative writing workshops encouraging participants to write a short story.
Entrants will be judged by local author Conrad Jones, who will also run a competition to design the front cover of his latest book.
To mark Children’s Book Week, the shop will hold a Pirate’s Party on Friday October 10.
The shop regularly hosts book signings by local authors and earlier this year Warrington-Worldwide’s David Skentelbery visited with his new children’s book Jumbles Wood – which was inspired by incidents in the Warrington area – while Croft farmer Alan Sharpe signed copies of his history of Croft village.
