WARRINGTON Market has beaten off markets from across the country to be named one of Britain’s best at an awards ceremony at Birmingham.
The Great British Market Awards saw markets battle it out to be crowned Britain’s best in the national competition run by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).
Warrington Market won the best “Love your Local Market Event” category and were praised for introducing history tours, karaoke, special offers and a special comic convention to make the market an outstanding success and an example for others to learn from.
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “We’ve known all along that Warrington Market is one of the country’s best – now the rest of the country knows it too!
“The traders are certainly ahead of their time in the way they keep delivering innovative promotions such as the comic convention, mediaeval day and all kinds of special offers.
“Well done to Warrington Market and everybody who helped it get the recognition it deserves.”
Speaking at the awards ceremony, High Street Minister Marcus Jones said: “Markets are a vital part of Britain’s bustling high streets. They are the test beds for entrepreneurs starting out in the trade and the heartbeat of communities across the country.
“I’d like to congratulate Warrington Market on being named one of Britain’s best markets and wish them all the best for the future.”
NABMA president Cllr Mick Barker said:“The Great British Market Awards showcase the depth and breadth of talent that there is across this country’s market industry.
“This year saw more categories than ever before and recognises everyone from small community markets and special events to the large food markets. This is what makes the British market industry so diverse and so special.”

  1. I loved the Warrington market when we visited from New Zealand. My Husband Graham was a Warrington lad and I had heard so much about it over the years. My daughter worked on the Fruit and Vege stall in the market when she was over there on a working holiday.
