Drivers warned as strong winds hit local roads

STRONG winds made driving hazardous in the Warrington area early this morning and police were advising motorists to drive with caution.
A 50mph restriction was in force on the M6 Thelwall Viaduct where gusts of wind were particularly strong. Drivers of high-sided vehicles were advised to take extreme care.
A similar restriction was in force on the M60 Barton Bridge in Greater Manchester.
The A53 was closed at Runcorn, between Southgate and the B5155 Halton Link.
There was an accident earlier on the M6 southbound near Woolston, but this has been cleared and traffic has returned to normal.
