FIRE and rescue crews from Warrington, Birchwood, Leigh and Eccles were involved in a major operation on the M62 this morning after a crash in which one person was killed.
The collision involved a heavy lorry and a car on the westbound carriageway between Junction 11, Birchwood and Junction 12, Eccles.
One person was killed and one other rescued from the wreckage and taken to hospital by ambulance.
Fire crews requested the attendance of an air support unit to assess the incident location for further casualties.
The incident occurred shortly before 5.30am.
Updated 11am: The Westbound carriageway will be closed for some hours. The Eastbound is open again.
