Town Hall drops key priorities

TOWN Hall chiefs have endorsed an updated version of the borough council’s corporate plan – omitting a number of issues previously regarded as top priorities.
The new draft corporate plan will be put to a meeting of the full council on September 8 for adoption.
Four priority improvement outcomes (PIOs) have been removed from the corporate plan originally published in February 2006.
They are:
* Road casualties should be reduced
* Parks and open space should be safe and welcoming
* Young people should be supported to be ambitious and achieve
* Homelessness should be reduced.
Council chiefs believe they should no longer be the top improvement priorities.
They say there has already been significant progress in reducing road casualties, people feel safe and more confident in their communities, academic results have continued to improve from an already high base and good progress has been made in reducing homelessness.
One existing PIO has been amended.
“Energy efficiency and the use of renewable resources is maximised” has been changed to read: The impact of the council’s activities and the borough as a whole on climate change is reduced.
Two new PIOs have been introduced.
* A performance management culture is embedded throughout the organisation
* The capacity and contribution of the third sector is maximised.
These reflect a need to improve performance management identified during the council’s corporate assessment and also opportunities to improve the way the council works with community and voluntary groups.
Some minor changes may be necessary before the corporation plan 2008/9 is published but copies will be made available in public buildings and on the council’s website, www.warrington.gov.uk
