A ROAD safety initiative is being launched in Warrington today offering young drivers the chance to “Rate Your Mate.”
Warrington Road Safety Unit will be staging the event in Bridge Street and will feature a Lamborghini sports car and models made up as though they have just been involved in a crash.
The idea is to target young drivers aged between 17 and 25 in conjunction with Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership’s R8URM8 initiative.
Lee Murphy, partnership manager at CSRP commented: “The idea behind R8URM8 is to create a forum for young people to talk to their mates about cars, bikes and all things driving related. We want to encourage them to talk freely about their driving experiences and to rate their mate’s driving ability. Those who get a good rating, will then be in with a chance of winning a number of prizes.”
The campaign will run for 12 months and will feature a new interactive website, celebrity and touring car events.
Lee added: “Around 11 young people die on Cheshire’s roads each year. New drivers in the UK are involved in 29 percent of all collisions and one in five new drivers has a collision within the first 12 months of passing their test. With statistics like this it’s easy to see the gravity of the situation and the need to pro-actively tackle the problem.”
