A MAN had to be given oxygen after being overcome by smoke while fighting a fire at his home at Warrington.
The blaze was in a ground floor kitchen at a three-storey house in Grammar School Road, Latchford.
Severe damage was caused in the kitchen and also spread into the hall.
The rest of the property was affected by smoke and firefighters had to use a ventilation unit to clear smoke from the building.
They tackled the fire – which involved an unattended chip pan on the cooker – with a hosereel jet.
A spokesman said: “The occupant unfortunately tackled the fire with water, which is the worsed thing you can do with a chip pan fire.
“He suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation but did not require hospital treatment.”
