Residents lose plans battle over taxi office

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go ahead for a taxi booking office despite objections from local residents and a borough councillor.
The scheme involves the change of use of an office at Newspaper House, in Tannery Lane, Penketh.
Six residents objected to the plan, supported by Cllr David Keane.  They claimed a 24-hour business was inappropriate in a mainly residential area as it would lead to traffic and noise. They claimed there was a history of complaints over the use of the building and they feared future extensions.
Cllr Keane objected on the grounds of a damaging impact on the ameni8ty of residents, particularly outside normal daytime working hours.
There would potential for a base for larger, commercial types of vehicles such as coaches and mini-buses.
But members of the borough’s development management committee were told the plan was only for an office base for one member of staff to receive bookings over the telephone.  No customers or taxis would visit the site.
Although the business would operate 24-hours a day, night time calls would be diverted to a mobile and would be dealt with off site.
Officers were satisfied there would be no increase in noise or disturbance.
