POLICE today issued a warning about “suspicious” men claiming to be carpet cleaners and calling at homes in the Lymm area.
Two reports of men calling at addresses and offering a free carpet cleaning service were received. They did not have business cards or other forms of identification.
A police spokesman said: “Unfortunately these days, not everyone who calls at your door is who they seem to be so you should always be on your guard.
“If in doubt – keep them out. If you don’t let them in they will go away. Don’t let them pressure you into opening your door.”
In another incident, a local residents received a telephone call saying they were due £4,800  compensation from the government relating to a previous accident. They were asked to pay £480 via Western Union to release the money.
“Fortunately in this case, all details were refused but we are advising people not to give out personal details over the ‘phone. They will almost certainly empty your bank account or spend on your credit card.”
Police also issued a warning to motorists to ensure cars were left secure following thefts from cars parked in Palmer Crescent, Old Hall, East View, Grappenhall and Shackleton Close, Old Hall.

  2. It’s such a shame that a few bogus callers can bring a credible industry into question. A word of advice to potential customers.. Do your due diligence and never accept cold calls from anyone regardless of how good their offer appears.
