AN aspiring police officer has been jailed for six months for possessing more than 1,000 images of child pornography – just days after his father was convicted of similar offences.
Police found the indecent images on Matthew Oliver’s computer at the house where he lived with his father and brother, Warrington Crown Court

heard.
There were 1,056 images of a young girl being abused and made to perform sex acts which had been made into a film.
Police found a further 81 pictures on the computer – five of which were classed at the most serious level five standard, and there was evidence of other indecent images which had been deleted and could not be opened.
Oliver, 27, of Wednesbury Drive, Great Sankey, Warrington pleaded guilty to 10 offences of making indecent images and one of possessing indecent images.
The court heard his ambition had been to become a police officer.
Simon Medland, prosecuting, said Oliver had used file sharing sites to obtain the images by putting in search terms such as “pre-teen” and “family incest.”
Robert Golinski, defending, said Oliver did not accept he had done anything wrong and had pleaded guilty on legal advice. He had not distributed the images or film footage and was willing to take part in a rehabilitation programme made available by the probation service.
He was a man of previous good character and only had a handful of the most serious type of image in his possession.
Judge David Hale told the defendant: “For you to deny that you have any interest in child pornography flies in the face of the evidence.”
On July 29 Oliver’s father, Thomas Oliver, 68, was given a three-year supervision order to complex a sex offender programme and ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for five years after being found guilty of possessing indecent images.
