Emergency as man threatens to jump

THERE was a full emergency turnout early today when a man threatened to jump into the Mersey at Warrington.
Police, fire and ambulance services were called to Kingsway Bridge shortly before 4am.
Fire crews were ready to launch an inflatable boat if the man jumped.
Two police officers engaged the distraught man in conversation and eventually managed to persuade him not to jump.
The man was taken to hospital for a check-up and counselling.
