TWO teenagers from Warriors of Warrington swim club who train at LiveWire’s swimming pools have been selected to join the British Para-Swimming Potential Programme, as the sport enters its final stretch for Rio.

Coral Farrell and Adele Maguire, both 14, are two of only 44 young athletes nationwide who have been tipped to compete for Great Britain at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

They were selected to the programme after demonstrating they have the ability to able to return medals in future Paralympic games and have made positive steps to support the team to become the best performing at future events.

The two junior swimmers are cramming in 20 hours of training a week around their school work.

They also compete in regional and national galas around the country and Coral even represented Britain at the International German Swimming Champions of People with Disabilities in Berlin this summer.

The pair have been swimming since they were four-years-old and use the centres in Orford, Sankey, Woolston and Broomfields to compete.

Coral, whose main event is the 400m freestyle, said: “Having so many good facilities around Warrington and great coaches makes all the difference for me. Our coaches Darren and Ashley really spared us on and continue to support us to achieve our best.”

Adele, from Woolston who swims the 100m backstroke, added: “Being part of the squad has really improved my confidence and helped me an awful lot. I liked swimming from an early age and even though I tried lots of other sports, swimming was my favourite as I feel like I’m floating, like a mermaid.”
