Fire crews in hazardous operation

VANDALS set alight to an abandoned car in Warrington early today – and a ruptured petrol tank led to a “running fuel” fire which made firefighting hazardous.
The incident was in Cromwell Avenue, near to its junction with Sankey Way and the operation involved two fire engines.
The car had been parked in the road for several days and police were aware of its presence.
A Fire Service spokesman said it had been deliberately set alight by someone for no apparent reason.
“It was on a slight incline so when the fire ruptured the tank, fuel spilled along the road and ignited which made firefighting quite hazardous.”
Fire crews also dealt with two fires involving abandoned cars at Burtonwood last night.
